Lunch & Learn - More Than Just a Free Lunch!

Continuing education is not only important to all of us at Bonin Architects  in order to remain informed about the latest trends, codes, regulations and newest products. It is an industry requirement each year in areas such as Heath, Safety and Welfare (HSW) and Sustainable Design (SD).

There are several ways in order for our firm to receive the continuing education credits. Online classes, traveling to a classroom and attending a classes, seminars, webinars, industry expos are just a few, and then there's our favorite-the Lunch & Learn!

A Lunch & Learn is when a vendor comes into our business at lunchtime and provides a seminar about a specific product or topic for continuing education credits (CEU's), while arriving with good food like sandwiches, pizza or salads for all of the staff to enjoy while listening to the presentation. Most will provide an interactive session with videos, photos and samples of the product. If cookies are involved, that's a plus!

A typical session is about an hour from start to finish with time for questions and answers. Most of the presenters are aware of the time limitations, especially when we start looking at the clock, we do need to get back to work after all, even if it is not easy to do with a full belly.

Our topic today was Phantom Screens, thanks to Bill from North Atlantic Corp. for today's presentation.

Where is Bonin Architects Located?

Bonin Achitects, 210 Main St. New London, NH

Bonin Architects, 290 Daniel Webster Highway, Meredith, NH

Bonin Architects operates two locations in New Hampshire, both centrally located around the lakes region. Our main office address is 210 Main Street, New London, NH. Our second location is in Meredith, NH, on the Daniel Webster Highway.

Today, I'm working in our Meredith office,we're on the second floor, 290 Daniel Webster Highway. It is a bright sunny space overlooking Lake Winnipesaukee. The location is wonderful, we're located directly across from the Town Docks. During the winter months, we're only there a few days a week for client meetings. Meredith is not as active during the winter months as compared to New London, NH, where it is typically always busy since it is a college town. When we're not in Meredith, we're either out at a job site or back in the New London location with the rest of our design team. It is really cool when the M/S Mt. Washington pulls in right across the street from our Meredith office. Here's what it looks like from my window!

Here's a photo of a double rainbow taken one afternoon after Jeremy and I were finishing a client meeting and heading home.

Concentrating on work, especially during lunch time is challenging. When the windows are open, you can smell all of the fabulous aromas coming from the nearby restaurants, plus there is the ice cream window at the Town Docks calling my name.
Ice Cream is Calling My Name

Welcome to our New Blog!

Welcome to Beauty in Design-the Bonin Architects' Blog! It is a new blog for us, although we're not new to the world of blogging. We've written two different blogs since 2008, our Timber Frame Blog, and our Green Home Blog. It is time to retire both blogs, which were mostly written and managed by Jeremy Bonin, Jackie Lampiasi and most recently, me, over the past 8 years.

Now it is time for something new and a little different. I'm Kim Bonin, one of the Principal Partners of Bonin Architects & Associates, PLLC. My husband, Jeremy Bonin, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, is my business partner and our firm's principal architect. We are a relatively small firm of seven people, with locations in New London and Meredith, NH. We began our firm in January of 2008, and we've been growing ever since. Here's a link to our website if you are interested in meeting the whole team. Please take a look

Our past two blogs were quite technical, filled with information specific to our industry. With this blog, my intent is to show a bit of the work which happens behind the scenes, the stuff you don't see until you open the beautiful photos and stories about our projects in publications such as New Hampshire Home Magazine or New England Home Magazine.

As one of our favorite general contractor often says about the process of designing and building a custom home, "It's like watching the sausage being made." I suppose it is, and there is a story behind each project, each member of our talented design team, the builders we work with every day, their subcontractors, our clients and the beautiful sites we are blessed to visit all over New England.

I'll do my best to bring you the glimpses into the process and into the day to day operations of our firm, with less technical information and more interesting tidbits about the overall design process, and some of our daily office or site scenes.

Feel free to reach out to me with comments or suggestions or just to say hello. My email is
